Description

Playground scenes from Mersey Street Primary School in East Belfast during the 1970s featuring children painting and playing and taken by one of the teachers, Grace Foster. Sections of this footage were included in the Super 8 Story, 'The Foster Family'.

Notes

Grace Foster and her mother, also named Grace, were both school teachers at Mersey Street Primary School in East Belfast when they took up 8mm film-making. “My mother bought the camera (a Eumig Eumigette Super 8 zoom) to record her holidays and the events in her family life like Christmas with the family, weddings, babies etc. We watched them and enjoyed them together. We would then join them together and put them on larger reels, which was easier to view. There was a lot of fun looking at some of the film”. Grace is left with many happy memories of her films. “The visual memories of the family many years ago and those who are no longer here are priceless. It is also historically interesting to see the school playground, clothes, cars and public transport shown on these films as everything has changed so much”.
