Northern Ireland's war effort
In September 1939, Germany invaded Poland, sparking war in Europe. As Northern Ireland rallied to the British war effort, Ireland declared itself neutral. During the Second World War Northern Ireland was portrayed as an industrious and resourceful nation who made an important contribution. Across Ulster’s Industries, major changes were incorporated to make way for the war effort.
