The Belfast shipyards captured on film over the past 100 years
Next to the Linen Industry, ship building was one of the biggest industries in Northern Ireland at the turn of the century. Belfast has been famous for over 100 years for its shipbuilding and in the early 20th century it was responsible for some of the biggest and the best luxury ocean liners in the world. The Titanic is one of the most powerful images associated with the Belfast shipyards and effected all those who saw her. This collection includes what is thought to be the only authentic footage of the Titanic in Thompson Dock taken before she sailed to Southampton to begin her fatal transatlantic crossing.
