Kalakeli tell their story through music

Kalakeli, are a South Indian drum ensemble in Belfast, sharing the powerful rhythms of Chenda Melam across Northern Ireland. Rooted in Kerala’s temple arts, they blend traditional instruments like Chenda, Ilathalam, and Kurumkuzhal with creative fusion. Through percussion, movement, and storytelling, they celebrate culture, unity, and joy.

Performing across Belfast and beyond, Kalakeli bring their sounds to festivals and events including the Belfast Mela, Diwali celebrations and more. Kalakeli also provides Chenda and Kurumkuzhal lessons, as well as workshops.
