Northwest Creatives
Some films from the Northwest Creatives group
This group of Creative Media and Film students from the Nerve Centre in Derry brings together a diverse mix of talents, backgrounds and perspectives. Under the guidance of filmmaker and tutor John Deery, they have honed their skills in storytelling, cinematography and editing, creating films that are as varied as their own experiences.
Northwest Creatives is made up of individuals from all walks of life – some are practising visual artists, using film as a new medium to expand their creative expression, while others are deeply involved in LGBTQIA+ outreach, working closely with The Rainbow Project to amplify voices and stories that deserve greater representation. Their shared passion for film has provided a platform to explore bold, thought-provoking, and visually compelling narratives.
With experience spanning a wide range of genres, this talented collective has tackled everything from horror and comedy to documentaries that shine a light on unique local stories. Their work has explored subjects as diverse as female mechanics, highlighting women breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated industries, and local artists, capturing the rhythm and emotion of Northern Ireland’s rich artistic heritage.
By combining technical skill, artistic vision, and a commitment to meaningful storytelling, this group is not just learning about film – they are using it to challenge perceptions, share unheard voices, and bring fresh perspectives to the screen.
