Pride

An online exhibition for Belfast Pride

Brought to you by PRONI, LGBTQIA+ Heritage NI Project and the Digital Film Archive.

Check in throughout Belfast Pride week as we add highlights specially selected from the UTV Archives.

Most of the archive we work with has very little information with it, sometimes just a few hand written notes from the past or a date scribbled on a film can. For our first collection Jeffrey Dudgeon has shared a biography of Roger Casement to accompany Ulster Television news coverage from the 1960s. Thanks to Jeffrey and to Fionntan McCarry for helping to identify the places, people and who they represent in this silent footage  of events connected to the reburial of Roger Casement.

Our second collection brings together a series of photographs from the first Belfast Pride taken by David McFarlane. The original pictures are held by PRONI as part of the PA Maglochlainn Papers.

Our third collection is a musical response is by ritnoise to the UTV series McGilloway's Way.

The LGBTQIA+ Heritage NI Project needs you.

Do you have any photographs, videos, fashions or memorabilia from Northern Irish LGBTQIA+ events, bars or past prides? These can be photographed or scanned in to become part of our rich history on the LGBTQIA+ online archive. Contact Joe Walsh at joe@hereni.org or Mary Ellen Campbell at maryellen@hereni.org to find out how to get involved.

Visit https://lgbthistoryni.com to see what has been gathered so far.

Thanks to Grace Gordon (PRONI), Pauline Russell, Micah Scott, Jeffrey Dudgeon, Fionntan McCarry, David McFarlane, Emma Campbell, ritnoise, Joe Walsh and Mary Ellen Campbell (LGBTQIA+ Heritage Project) for their support with this project.
