The Lark Collection
Lark and a collection of films that inspired it
Lark is a powerful Dance for Camera work created in response to With Heart and Hand, a 1966 Ulster Television programme marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Drawing on the recollection of a veteran who described a lone bird rising in the midst of bombardment, this project created and choreographed by Jennifer Rooney, performed by Maeve McGreevy and co-directed by Tom Hughes transforms the moment into a striking meditation on memory, resilience and loss.
The original archive footage, which features interviews with soldiers and their families, provides the foundation for this contemporary interpretation. Through movement, sound and landscape, Lark reimagines the enduring emotional resonance of the First World War for new audiences.
