The Life and Times of...
Exploring Irish Traditional Music
Series exploring the people who make, play and listen to Irish traditional music in Belfast.
Focusing on one instrument per episode, we hear from practitioners and makers, as they explain not only how to make and maintain the particular instrument, but also detail the history of that instrument and its place within the Irish traditional music scene.
Produced by Belfast Film Workshop which, along with Derry Film Workshop, was formed in the 1980s as part of the independent workshop movement. Made possible by the ACTT Workshop Declaration of 1984 which, along with new funding streams from the recently-established Channel 4 Television and the Greater London Council, created new structures and working methods to filmmakers outside the mainstream film and broadcasting industries.
