Tower Museum and Northland Broadcast
A collection of films from the city of Derry
This collection was created as the result of a collaboration between the Tower Museum, Northland Broadcast and Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive.
The collection’s films were donated by the Derry-based filmmaker, Vinny Cunningham. Among them, there is a mixture of footage and programmes that Cunningham made or helped produce, along with older footage shot on film in the 1960s and 1970s by third parties. Many of the films were created by Cunningham under and his production company, Open Reel Productions Ltd.
The project was funded by the National Archives Covid-19 Collections at Risk Grant Programme. The focus was cataloguing and digitising a selection of the material, deemed at risk, that was previously inaccessible.
All of the footage is deeply connected to the city of Derry, whether through subject, location or theme. We hope you enjoy exploring the collection!
