Wall2Wall

A collection of films from the Springboard group

The Wall2Wall Group is a youth initiative bringing together 16 to 20-year-olds from the Shankill and Clonard areas of Belfast, two communities separated by Peace Walls yet connected by a shared city and history. The project provides a unique opportunity for young people to meet, engage, and build meaningful relationships across traditional divides, fostering understanding, leadership skills and personal growth.

Run by Springboard Opportunities, a youth and outreach organisation with over 30 years of experience in strengthening cross-community relations in Belfast and Northern Ireland, Wall2Wall offers young people the chance to explore themes of division, reconciliation and peacebuilding through workshops, trips and immersive learning experiences.

A key element of the programme involves examining peace walls and conflict zones both locally and internationally. In September 2024, the group embarked on a week-long visit to Cyprus, where they explored the hard border dividing the island, gaining first-hand insight into another region grappling with a legacy of division. By comparing the realities of life in Cyprus with their own experiences growing up in Belfast, the young people were able to reflect on the impact of physical and psychological barriers and engage in discussions about conflict resolution, identity, and shared futures.

Through initiatives like Wall2Wall, young people from historically divided communities are given the chance to challenge inherited narratives, develop leadership skills and play an active role in shaping a more inclusive and connected Belfast.
