This excerpt from a lost programme of 7 Degrees West sees UTV's famous roving reporter Charlie Witherspoon travel to the Armagh town of Keady. Here he meets the famous folk singer Sarah Makem and joins her for a chat beside a bank of the River Callan before listening to her sing - appropriately enough - "By the Banks of the Callan".

Makem belonged to a famous Irish folk music family, being the wife of the fiddler Peter Makem and the mother of Tommy Makem, who gained worldwide fame singing alongside the Clancy Brothers. Many of her descendents are still within the folk movement to this day. A generation of radio listeners will also have known her from the Radio Ulster folk series, As I Roved Out, with Sarah providing the voice for the opening title song each week.
