Description

A hovercraft makes a dramatic exit from the sea in Belfast. The Interservice Hovercraft Trials Unit of the Royal Navy was founded to test the viability of the boat. By the look of this film, more work needed done on parking capability.

Notes

The first practical design for hovercraft was derived from a British invention in the 1950s.  In 1961, the United Kingdom set up the Interservice Hovercraft Trials Unit (IHTU) based at RNAS Lee-on-Solent (HMS Daedalus), now the site of the Hovercraft Museum, near Portsmouth.

An Ulster Television Production.
