Description

A Royal Sturgeon is on display at Sawer’s in Castle Street, Belfast. The 62lb fish was landed at Ardglass. It would not be sold but rather some of it was given to Governor Erskine while Tom Keenan of Sawer’s would gift the rest to his friends.

The Royal Sturgeon is so called because under UK law, these fish (and whales) are the property of the monarch.
