Description

Dr Robert Simpson of the Ulster Unionist Party refutes criticism of Prime Minister Terence O’Neill from certain factions inside the party. There has been unrest within the party as PM O’Neill pushes forward for reforms. He dismisses claims of a split as “utter rubbish” and answers all of William McGookin’s questions very clearly. These questions come ahead of a party meeting the following day. 

The film also includes some ‘noddies’ and question set-ups by William McGookin. 

Notes

Dr Robert Simpson joined the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) in 1952 and was selected as the party's candidate for Mid Antrim. He won the seat, unopposed, at the 1953 Northern Ireland general election, and held it at each election thereafter, not facing a single opponent until 1969. He was a strong supporter of Terence O’Neill.
