It’s not quite clear what the purpose of this aerial film of Belfast was. In it we see footage of a Royal Naval helicopter flying over Belfast city centre and its suburbs, while there is also another cameraman being filmed by the Ulster Television crew inside their own helicopter. Documentation suggests it was the same day as the 1962 Lord Mayor’s Show and you can see crowds around the streets in some shots with floats going by. That year’s winning float of a huge castle is briefly seen at one stage. However, the main footage appears to be just random shots of Belfast landmarks. In the case of the long demolished old Great Victoria Street railway station it’s welcome to see that it was captured.
