Terry George interviewed by Helen O’Hara.
Irish screenwriter and director, who has been nominated for two Oscars for 'In the Name of the Father' and 'Hotel Rwanda'. He won an Oscar for his short film 'The Shore.'
He is interested in stories about ordinary people who are in situations that they have no control over. Finding the humanity, courage and flaws of these people.
A lot of his early work was about the Troubles. He had met Gerry Conlon in a pub before he had been arrested. Gerry remembered Terry when they met again after he had been released from jail.
He discusses what drew him to making drama rather than documentaries, what he thinks the responsibilities of the filmmaker are, and what he thinks filmmaking is going to be like in the future.
