Description

This video showcases a collection of photos and footage featuring the Anaka contingent and other groups participating in the International Women’s Day Rally held in March 2023. The visuals capture the vibrant energy and solidarity of the event, highlighting the diverse range of voices advocating for gender equality, women's rights, and social justice.

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8th, is a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s, with its roots in the labour movements of North America and Europe. Over the years, the day has grown to include a broader range of issues, from gender-based violence and reproductive rights to climate justice and economic empowerment.

Anaka is a women's collective based in North Belfast that seeks to empower and provide support to migrant women in Belfast. Through community-building activities and educational programs, Anaka fosters an inclusive environment where women from diverse backgrounds can share experiences, build skills, and advocate for their rights.
