Description

Colourful footage of outdoor dancing in Bangor as sleeping baby steals the show at the Bangor Square Dance. A 1950's summer in Bangor means live music and outdoor dancing by the sea. Whirling couples exchange partners with ease or muddle through the steps with a smile. The dancers take centre stage until a sleeping baby steals the show. See if you can spot the live band. Not only have they been silenced by the film, they are almost indistinguishable in the background. Also hiding in the top corner tiny bathers climb the infamous high diving boards of the iconic Pickie Pool.

This was digitised as part of the Unlocking Film Heritage project.

Notes

The Pickie Pool was built in 1937. These colour rushes from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board show it during its peak. It fell into disrepair and was demolished during the 1980s as part of a regeneration scheme.
