Description

Future Prime Minister of Northern Ireland Brian Faulkner was Minister for Commerce at the time of this report and had just returned from a meeting with the UK Minister for Transport, Ernest Marples. On the agenda was the looming shadow of the Beeching report into the fate of the UK’s railways. This infamous report would sound the death knell for huge areas of the network. Faulkner points out that in Northern Ireland they were awaiting their own separate report, but it would also provide little solace for rail enthusiasts when it arrived.
