Description

Conservationists stand guard as the National Trust and National Trust for Scotland keep a vigilant watch on the UK’s coastline.

Britain’s coast is the most crowded nautical graveyard in the world and behind each headland lurks a history lesson. Surrender yourself to the irresistible call of the sea with this documentary narrated by Michael Hordern. It is an enchanting survey of the National Trust and National Trust for Scotland’s mission of coastal conservation. Travel the unspoiled coastline saved by Enterprise Neptune and discover the turbulent past that hides beneath its tranquil beauty.

Part of the programme visits the Causeway Coast, exploring its famous geological features in a place where the Girona, a ship of the Spanish Armada went down. It also visits a site where, in 1901, Marconi sent the first trans-atlantic radio transmission between Poldhu, Cornwall and St. John's inNewfoundland. Some of Marcon's earlier experiments had been conducted on the North Coast of Antrim.
