Keith Britton has crossed the Irish Sea in an outrigger canoe and Maurice Smyth asks him about the adventure, the route and how he kept safe. Keith admits to having slept a lot of the time which seems to suggest he was quite lucky to stay on course. Losing a rudder didn’t help and it’s a little worrying he had no light, just a torch. He had made the canoe himself.
An outrigger canoe is based on Polynesian boat design. The ‘outrigger’ is a support float attached to the main body of the canoe, which may also have sails as this one did.
