Footage of Captain W H Wilson conducting a tour of the War Memorial Museum for Ulster Television viewers.
Captain
W. H. Wilson served
in the Middle East, Burma and Italy with the Hong Kong and Singapore Royal
Artillery during the Second World War. In July 1949 he succeeded Major Longley
as Organising Secretary of the NIWM Building Fund, becoming honorary Secretary
two years later. He was at the forefront of fundraising efforts for the
building throughout the 1950s and later oversaw the compiling of names of the
dead for the Rolls of Honour. Outside his work for NIWM, he was Regional
Officer in Northern Ireland for the Independent Television Authority from
1959-1967 and helped organise the first Lord Mayor’s show in Belfast in
1956. This film shows him providing a press tour of the new War
Memorial building on Waring Street, Belfast, in late October 1963.
