Description

Northern Ireland has a long association with country and western music and with the nation enjoying a remarkable year of sporting triumph in 1985, what could seem more natural than combining these two things together? John Watt the Singing Farmer was a mainstay on the local country music circuit in Ireland and with his homeland blazing a trail across various sports he put together a vinyl EP single of three tracks to celebrate.

Good Evening Ulster promoted the event by cutting together images from their extensive archives of each of the three world champions featured, with Joey Dunlop first up. Dunlop won the road racing Formula TT World Championship for the fourth time in a row in 1985 and was celebrated in song by John with 'The Two Wheel King of Racing.' Dennis Taylor is next with 'Gentleman of Snooker,' following his epic victory over Steve Davis in the 1985 World Championship, while the newly crowned Featherweight Champion of the World, Barry McGuigan, completes the line-up with 'Here We Go, Here We Go.'
