Description

In this episode of Check it Out, Jacqui Berkeley and Eamonn Holmes explore the topics of self-help videos, cot death, hair and Chinese cooking.

With 1 in 7 cassettes sold, being a self-help video, it's no wonder that the breadth of subjects keeps expanding. In studio Cecil Clark, Clarke School of Dance, Linda Jayne, Downtown Radio and Mike Bull, fitness expert, are given three tapes, one on ballroom dancing, another to quit smoking and the last one being an exercise video. All three give their opinions and watch to find out which is a hit and which is a miss!

Ronan Kelly is up next, with a report on the minicom communication device for those with hearing difficulties. This device allows message to be passed on via the phone, however, not many places have them installed, this is a problem which faces John and Agnes Carberry as they both have hearing difficulties. Brian Symington, Royal National Institute for the Deaf and Frank Johnston, British Telecom, explain the growing need for more minicoms.

A nightmare which all parents dread is cot death, Patricia James speaks to Check it Out about her experience losing her baby Suzanne, and Dr John Glasgow discusses how 2 in 3 cot deaths are due to underlying health problems.

Lastly, Paul Stafford chats through hair health and style and San Wong from the Welcome Restaurant, gives a demonstration on how in 2-3 minutes you can have a perfect Chinese meal!
