Description

This footage is a bit of a mixture but it all comes together to tell the story of the last minute preparations for Christmas in 1962. Film from the docks area includes signs detailing what the Christmas closure days are, while we also see a Christmas tree being carried onto a bus, pedestrians and shoppers navigating the city centre rush with cards being bought and young children gazing into shop windows. There are also crowds heading into Belfast’s Great Victoria Street railway station to head home for Christmas, some with suitcases and one carrying the Christmas turkey.
