Description

Charlie Witherspoon reports on an issue which had grabbed newspaper headlines after young children claimed they had been able to see into the mortuary at Belfast City Hospital through holes in some ventilation bricks. This claim was easily proven as false childish boasting. However, Witherspoon interviewed some of the tenants of the adjoining Belfast Welfare Hostel, a large Victorian building providing temporary accommodation to families who had suddenly found themselves in housing trouble. The tenants claimed that the site, housed between a mortuary and a graveyard was unsuitable for young families and children as well as outlining a number of other problems they had with the accommodation.
