Description

In 1974, Judith Ward was convicted of the M62 bombing. This edition of Counterpoint looks at the weakness of the evidence against her and the flawed nature of her confession and the wider incidence of miscarriages of justice against those accused of IRA bombings in Britain at that time (the Maguire Seven, the Guildford Four, the Birmingham Six). Unlike many of those convicted, Ward had shied away from campaigning to clear her name. Despite this, she was finally released in 1992 when a panel of judges unanimously overturned her conviction.

Notes

Features footage of Jeremy Corbyn, now leader of the Labour Party, discussing Ward's case.
