Brian Black reports on the buying and selling of illegitimate cars and repairs, with reference to an earlier episode of Counterpoint covering the topic when they first "discovered the dodgy car trade was flourishing".
Knowledgeable about the subject is Jimmy Hughs (Trading Standards) who has seen a noticeable rise in cars being brought in to be written off which had already been. One of the victim of these unfavourable dealings is Jim Mosses who within minutes realised something was not right and asked for his money back, only to be denied.
However, there are ways to safeguard against these cars as Ian Wilson (Auctioneer) discusses, unfortunately though, not all checks are accessible to the general public. Paul Leo (HP Information Centre about Car Registers) informs the viewer, that though they might not be able to come to them directly, they can demand the trader to perform the check before purchase.
Concluding the programme is Jim Mosses showing Black the official document for the car he purchased, this however, had been in part altered, and so sends the message to the viewer to always exercise caution before buying such a big investment.
