Description

This film by Declan Foley was his second entry into the 2024 Rathmullan Film Festival's short film competition. It features edited sections of Dylan Thomas' poem Death Shall Have No Dominion.

Of his film, Declan said:

"Working with the archives was a novel experience. I wanted to maintain the integrity of the clips and use them to help generate an imaginative narrative, as opposed to just imposing one on them. For example, I didn’t want to dub over any of the dialogue with my own, but rather allow the original dialogues to suggest aspects of the larger narrative.

The overarching narrative of the rupture in time was principally suggested by the Daleks clip. This led naturally to couching it in the style of trailers from 1950s and 60s sci fi movies. The concept for the second shorter piece made it easier to maintain the integrity of the clips."
