Description

From hopeful beginnings to notorious end, this compilation tells the story of the DeLorean Motor Company. For two years, from early-1981 to early-1983, around 9,000 DeLorean DMC-12s rolled off the production line of the company's Dunmurry factory. Benefiting from £100 million in government financial incentives, its closure was mired in political controversy. However, the DMC-12 would later attain fame of a different kind, owing to its appearance in Back To The Future.

Notes

This material is courtesy of the UTV archive. Founded by the maverick car designer and executive, John DeLorean, the company would go bust following his arrest on drug-trafficking charges in late-1982. He would later beat the charges, successfully claiming entrapment by the US government. The film features interviews with DeLorean, local notables and employees of the ill-fated firm. This archival material features in Duncan Campbell’s compelling 2009 film ‘Make It New John’.
