Description

A demonstration on the Ormeau Bridge, organised by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).

Scenes show a gathering of men and women of various ages and the beginning of the protest, which cars being blocked and press gathering. A woman introduces the speakers to protestors, including Andy Stoddy (Vice President of Belfast Trade Council), Joyce McCartan (Community Activist), Cahal Smyth (Students Union) and Terry Carlin (NI Officer from the ICTU).

Congress is the largest civil society organisation on the island of Ireland, representing and campaigning on behalf of some 800,000 working people. There are currently 44 unions affiliated to Congress, north and south of the border.
