Description

Co Donegal in the Republic of Ireland at one time had an extensive rail network linking up with lines in Northern Ireland. By the 1950s it had been largely dismantled and by 1960 it was completely gone. This mute UTV film is dated to 1961 but is more likely from 1959 or 1960 as it shows the line still in operation. We see steam trains in operation passing through stations such as Killygordon in the Republic and Strabane CDR (adjacent to the Strabane GNR station), both of which closed in January 1960.
