Description

Prince Philip visited Belfast for two days in 1964, primarily to take part in this particular public engagement as he formally opened a new oil refinery on reclaimed land in Sydenham. The operation in the east of the city brought quite a number of jobs in construction and running the facility as well as adding to trade. Despite it being on the brink of summer the Duke can be seen struggling to read his notes on a very blustery day before taking off from the nearby harbour airport.
