Description

This film is a collection of reports on Northern Irish football stars playing in English football in 1966. Among the players and teams we see are Derek Dougan playing for Leicester City against Arsenal, Johnny Crossan playing for Sunderland against Newcastle United, and Willie Irvine playing for Burnley against a Stoke City side which featured England’s international goalkeeper, Gordon Banks. There are also fantastic shots outside Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium with fans wearing rosettes and badges for George Best.

Along with players arriving for training at facilities owned by Newcastle United there is also footage of the Northern Ireland team training at the ground of Ards FC with Scrabo Tower in the background, including John Parke, Martin Harvey and the man himself, George Best.
