Description

A Good Evening Ulster report on Belfast boxer Hugh Russell, one of the finest Irish boxers of the 1980s. After winning a bronze medal at the 1980 Olympics, Russell turned professional and won the British Bantamweight title. When he lost this belt he moved down a weight to Flyweight and became British champion again. This report sees him training for the defence of this title and talking about his future prospects.

Russell was a stablemate of the great Barry McGuigan and would eventually retire as champion after securing a Lonsdale belt for winning three title fights in a row.
