Description

Minister William Craig visits Gallaher's cigarette factory in Ballymena. We see the semi-automatic assembly line in progress and the outside of this impressive company.

This footage is intercut with images of the beautiful Galgorm Castle, a 17th century Jacobean castle dating back to 1607. The grounds of the castle backed onto the factory site.

Notes

Tom Gallaher founded his cigarette manufacturing business in 1867 and in time, the factory in Belfast became the largest in the world. The Ballymena factory opened in 1942 and closed when the business moved to Poland in 2017.
