Ernest Strathdee conducted this interview with a Mr Herbison, a very remarkable kind of carpenter. Mr Herbison had been blind for around forty years and only took up carpentry after losing his sight. Watching Mr Herbison operating a band saw in this footage is perhaps not for the faint-hearted but rest assured that, despite his lack of sight, he is a skilled operator comfortable in his workplace. He also displays a remarkable sense of humour, recounting tales of people talking about him as if he can’t hear them.
