John Peel was one of the BBC's most celebrated DJs. During his long career, he championed music from outside of the mainstream. His show gave airtime to reggae, psychedelic rock and punk. In 1978 he heard a song by a young band from Derry. "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones reportedly caused Peel to Burst into tears the first time he heard it and he cited the song as his favourite of all time.
In this short video, we get to see Peel in his element. He is at the decks recreating a live show for the documentary Teenage Kicks by the filmmakers, Tom Collins and Vinny Cunningham. We get an insight into how documentaries are made as well as hear some candid chatter between Peel and the filmmakers.
