Description

"Streaking out of the unknown, comes a strange new terror!"

From a remote American lake a fisherman dislodges a canister which has been jettisoned from a flying saucer. A teenager and his girlfriend succeed in convincing the authorities of the existence of an all-consuming creature that has emerged from the canister, but not before it has gone on a rampage of horror and death.

A drive-in movie, inquisitive sheriff, bikers, teenagers and good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll, Twentieth Century American culture is quirkily recreated in this knowing tribute to The Blob. Ever ingenious, local filmmakers The Spence Brothers utilised local resources and nearby locations such as Carrickmannon Lake and the Comber bypass to recreate the glamour and excitement of faraway America.

Notes

Twin brothers Roy and Noel Spence have been making films like this for over fifty years; with subjects including crafty leprechauns, creatures from outer space, fifties rock 'n' rollers and the undead. You can enjoy many of these fantastical creations on BFI player. This film is courtesy of Roy Spence and is held in the Irish Film Archive.
