Learn about the art of agriculture in this government film.
Even in the city of Belfast, the people are only a generation away from the soil. This charming film explores the changing fortunes of Ulster and its farmers - from John’s farm in Ballymena to Eileen’s University laboratory.
Poetic words transform government policy and the harsh realities of farming into a rousing tale of good-humoured resilience. Find out how the great problems of collection are overcome in a land littered with little roads running through one another like "a bag of weasels" and discover whether, or no Ulster's farmers manage to move mountains under the inspector’s watchful eye.
This film was digitised as part of the BFI's Unlocking Film Heritage project. As part of August Craft Month 2016, five contemporary local makers have been invited to respond to Unlocking Film Heritage footage from the Northern Ireland Screen Digital Film Archive to produce new work for Film Makers an engaging exhibition of contemporay craft. This film inspired Nicola Gates a maker with a passion for natural materials who specialises in woven textiles.
