Description

Presenter Joe Mahon visits the area around the village of Loughguile in County Antrim. He tells us of its history and how the local landowner's castle on the Lissanoure Estate was destroyed in 1847 with the death of his wife by kegs of gunpowder exploding by accident. Current owner, Peter Mackie, describes how it happened and walks Joe around the current estate which he is busy planting with trees. Patsy McAleese tells Joe how locals laid a pipeline from a natural spring on his land in 1919 to bring water to the village.

Sean and PJ McAuley and John Patton stand beside Altnahinch Dam and tell Joe of the huge engineering project to bring it into being in 1967. Maynard Causley explains how the water is taken from the dam and how it is treated. Michael Scullion shows Joe the family business of making hurling sticks (hurleys). Billy Knox walks Joe around his sheep farm and shows him his workshop where he makes shepherd's crooks and walking sticks topped with rams' horns. Joe then visits Neil Burns, another craftsman who makes wooden bows for archery. Joe then tries his hand at archery in a field.
