Joe visits the parish of Dromintee in County Armagh. He
gives a brief outline of the area's history and then Mick Donegan shows him the
Kilnasaggart inscribed stone, believed to be the oldest inscribed Christian
monument in all of Ireland. They then visit the ruins of Moyry Castle, built in
late Elizabethan times during the rebellion of Hugh O'Neill. Joe tells of the
old local custom of pavvying - door to door selling when men weren't needed to
work on the land and which saw people from Dromintee travel as far off as
Canada to sell goods.
Elizabeth Murphy and
Rose Byrne show Joe their collection of antique household implements,
explaining to him how they were used. Patsy Morgan and Eamon Larkin tell Joe of
the poor agricultural yield in the area which tradionally required locals to
supplement their income from pavvying and demonstrate some antique farm tools.
