A Christmas themed programme looking at the 'Desert Rats' squadron in the Saudi desert during the holiday season.
With opening scenes of a busy street in Saudi Arabia and the civilian airport which hosts a massive "display of aerial firepower", cameras then venture off into the desert where British troops are waiting incase there is need for them to go into nearby Iraq.
We get to meet 'The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars' and are informed of their history by Lt. Col. Arthur Denaro [Commanding Officer], which dates back to the Battle of the Boyne, though was not formally formed until 1958. Currently around 35-40% of the regiment is Northern Irish, with the tanks named after towns across the province, notably, Winston Churchill was once a Colonel of the Hussars from 1958-65.
Luxuries are few in the desert, with letters and parcels from home keeping up moral, Capt. Arthur Currie chats about how he tries to make the lives of the 180 men more bearable. Arthur lets the programme in on how Christmas isn't forgotten and he "has some things up his sleeve" and that Santa will make an appearance!
