Description

This short video showcases artist Elly Makem’s creation of a striking mural on an electricity box in the heart of Belfast’s ‘Holylands’ area. The vibrant artwork, featuring two figures embracing in a kiss, is emblazoned with the slogan “Love Transforms.” Makem’s mural adds a splash of colour to the city's famous student area, while promoting a message of love's transcendence and unifying power. Amid growing societal divisions, the piece serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of love in fostering acceptance, tolerance, and understanding across individual differences.

Makem’s message resonates with the mission of BeU, a support group hosted by The Rainbow Project, which offers help and guidance to trans, non-binary, and intersex individuals. The Rainbow Project, established in 1994, is a health organization committed to improving the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of the LGBTQIA+ community in Northern Ireland.
