The Magee College Trustees meet the Minister for Education, William Fitzsimmons, and Jimmy Robinson talks to Colonel Glass of the trustees on their discussion. They have stated they will only talk on condition that Magee retains university status. This is in light of the Lockwood Report recommendation to discontinue Magee College.
Sir John Lockwood was invited to form a committee to look into the location of a second university in Northern Ireland. The report took two years and in the end, somewhat controversially, the decision was taken to place the university in Coleraine, rather than in Derry city.
