Description

Footage of one of Northern Ireland’s all-time most famous athletes, Mary Peters. UTV reporter Leslie Dawes met her at Ripert Stanley College where there were facilities for indoor training. She talks of how she hopes to do well at a forthcoming indoor event to reward her coach, Buster McShane, and of how Northern Ireland is disadvantaged with a lack of indoor training facilities. She would be competing in the long jump and the shot putt but would, of course, go onto gain immortality as a pentathlete at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
