A preview of Barry McGuigan's world featherweight title
defence due to take place in June 1986. As well as an interview with McGuigan,
his manager Barney Eastwood talks about the importance of putting in a good
performance for the American audience and the benefit it could have for his
future career. The fight at this stage was still meant to be against the
Argentinian Fernando Sosa.
McGuigan
had been meant to fight Sosa in February, only for him to be replaced due to a
broken finger. Having prepared to fight this particular opponent in Las Vegas,
McGuigan would be wrong-footed when Sosa again pulled out with two detached
retinas. The replacement opponent of Steve Cruz would break Irish hearts in the
heat of the desert.
