There is little doubt that the assassination of President Kennedy on 22 November 1963 was one of the most shocking events of the second half of the twentieth century. While the story reverberated around a disbelieving world it had a particular effect upon the people of Ireland. Not only was President Kennedy a proud Irish-American but he had paid a visit to the island just four months beforehand. This film shows that many places were closing as a mark of respect in the days afterwards and long lines of people queued to sign condolence books.
