The 1960s saw a boom in new
social housing being built as authorities around the UK grappled with the
problem of unfit Victorian housing in inner cities. The modern new houses on
estates would often bring their own problems - but that was down the road and,
for now, the opening of new housing developments was a newsworthy enterprise
with VIPs in attendance.
The records for this clip do not record the location but it was typical of the type of new housing appearing all over Northern Ireland at the time and we have a suspicion that this particular footage is linked to the new town development at Craigavon.
