Description

New Threads reimagines Belfast's queer past, through the stories and voices of women who were there and takes a walk through the city centre in 1976. It creates dialogue between queer spaces inhabited now to ask the question, where were all the queer women in the past? This short film addresses invisibility and creates an imagined visual scenario that depicts what it might have looked like had a lesbian couple traversed Belfast's city centre together in 1976.

New Threads is a 6 minute short, that was part of the #BBC100 celebrations, making use of BBC archive to celebration this centenary. Elspeth Vischer and 11 other filmmakers based in Belfast were selected to work with archive and use up to 2 minutes in an innovative manner.

This project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (part of UK Research and Innovation) in partnership with the BBC, Kingston School of Art and the Cinemagic Film Festival.
